Hymn, (from the Greek word hymnos meaning, “song of praise”), songs used in Christian worship, usually sung by the congregation. The songs we teach are in Coptic ( the language of the Copts, which represents the final stage of ancient Egyptian. It now survives only as the liturgical language of the Coptic Church.) The hymns that we teach are mostly from the liturgy so we can sing together.
The youth group is mainly made up of high school and college kids with the exception of the high school servants that supervise. We would talk about subjects that matter, in the point of view of a Christian. Within this group there are also trips provided that are educational and some that are recreational.
The pre servant class that we provide are made for college kids that want to be servants. The leaders teach how to become a good servant for any grade of a Sunday school class and what we need to do to be good servants. They also teach minor physiological skills along with other faith based information that they would need to become a good servant.
The church provides three wonderful choirs that range from any age. First, we have the kids choir "The Angels" which is for kids from ages 2-9. They sing Christian-based kids songs that are easy to learn from three languages English, Arabic, and Coptic. Lead by Farida Farag. Next, we have the youth choir "Hearts of Worship" from ages 10- college. They also sing English, Arabic, and Coptic songs. The role of the youth choir is to help the congregation see and hear God through its music. The Choir provides an experience that allows students to develop musically as individuals while contributing to the joy of singing together. They also go on trips that the leader provides for all their hard work. Lead by Mariam Wassef. Finally, the adult choir "The Lord is Near" is mostly for college and parents. They are similar to the youth choir in their characteristics except they mostly focus more on Arabic songs and will sing at most one English song. Lead by Mary Abdalla.
In many religious communities, churches play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of belonging and engagement among older members. Often, the discussions between the church and older congregants revolve around themes of faith, spirituality, life experiences, and how to navigate the challenges of aging with grace and resilience. These conversations can be deeply comforting, inspiring, and enlightening for the elderly, offering them a platform to share their wisdom, express their concerns, and seek spiritual guidance.
Additionally, churches frequently organize field trips as a means to cultivate social interaction, promote active lifestyles, and provide meaningful experiences. These outings might include visits to places of historical or religious significance, nature retreats, or participation in community service activities. For the elderly, these field trips not only break the monotony of routine but also stimulate their curiosity and enthusiasm, thereby enhancing their overall well-being.
